This is a photograph of Hupa Indian men dressed for the white deerskin dance. The deerskin dance is a world renewal ceremony held sacred by Indian People who lived in northwest California. The ceremony was held in the Fall of the year. The intension of the deerskin dance was to give thanks, which would replenish and strengthen nature’s gifts to the Indian People, as well as rejuvenate the Indian People.
