This is a photograph of the first and only woman’s Presidential Ballot Box. It was used in the Presidential campaign of 1883-84. The SSS painted on the ballot box stands for Social Science Sisterhood. In 1884, Mrs. Marietta Stow founded the Equal Rights Party and ran as that party’s candidate on the Presidential ticket in 1884 and 1888 along with Mrs. Belva Lockwood as the Vice Presidential nominee.
